全面升级的北京大学五四体育中心田径场，荣获中国田径协会一类场地认证。2024年5月18日，在首都高校第62届学生田径运动会开幕式上，全面升级的五四体育场DPU塑胶跑道通过了中国田径协会Ⅰ类田径场地认证。这标志着五四体育场的田径跑道已经具备了高标准的运动场地品质，符合国家级田径赛事要求，并且满足了教育部及体育总局出台的相关环保和物理机械使用性能的全项检验要求。北大五四体育场可作为国内外综合性赛事的场地使用，并满足举办国家级田径赛事的要求。
完全人格，首在体育。北京大学一直以来高度重视体育事业发展，将体育育人作为重要的教育理念之一。五四体育中心承载着北大莘莘学子锻炼身体、弘扬体育精神的使命。为了进一步提升体育场地的硬件设施和师生运动体验，学校于2023年暑期启动了北大五四体育中心运动场的全面改造升级工程。

在使用方北京大学体育教研部、管理方北京大学基建工程部、认证方中国田径协会认证服务中心、材料品牌方都佰城、承建方瑞基斯德全链条单位的共同努力与通力合作下，五四体育中心运动场华丽升级，成为符合国内与国际田径场地的最高标准、满足师生体育锻炼需求的一流场地设施。
此次改造升级工程涵盖了田径场地塑胶跑道、足球场、篮球场、排球场和网球场等多个运动场地。其中，田径场塑胶跑道采用了国际先进的DPU塑胶跑道系统，该系统拥有三大创新技术：ETPU减震缓冲技术（有效降低运动者膝关节损伤并提供卓越的保护）、零VOC净味技术（环保无味，为运动者营造健康舒适的运动环境）和抗UV耐老化技术（有效抵抗紫外线和雨水腐蚀，延长使用寿命）。

高科技DPU塑胶跑道系统的应用，使五四体育场塑胶跑道的综合性能也达到了世界田径联合会（IAAF）的各项使用性能要求，并达到了我国最严格的塑胶跑道环保标准对VOC、甲醛等有害挥发物的限制要求。尤其在北京的寒冷冬季和炎热夏季，DPU跑道依然能够稳定地保持40%左右的冲击吸收性能，并且弹性不会流失，为运动者的膝关节提供卓越的保护，有效降低运动损伤。
