An undercoat that seals paper pores so the next functional coating stays on the surface and anchors well.

Resistance of board to bending, usually measured in machine and cross directions.

A barrier coating applied from a water-borne dispersion and dried into a film; "water-based" describes the carrier, not the chemistry.

Mechanical strength retained by paper after defined wetting, often reported as wet tensile strength.

Paper treated with wet-strength agents so it keeps part of its strength when wet; wet strength is not water repellency.
